Hyperfocus - the Hero and Villain of ADHD

Hi there!

Meet ‘Elaine’, a graphic designer with ADHD who started working on a new logo design for a client at 10 am and planned to take a lunch break at 1 pm. However, she found the project particularly interesting, felt creatively inspired and became completely engrossed in the design process. She spent hours tweaking details, exploring different color palettes, and experimenting with various layouts, and didn’t realise she had missed lunch until it was 4 pm! Although she ended up creating an excellent logo design, she had neglected her partner’s calls, forgotten to take her routine medication, and missed other important tasks.

Does that sound familiar? Elaine is a classic example of ADHD hyperfocus, a double-edged sword that can boost productivity in one area while derailing others.
