A simple tool you can use after emotional moments

ADHD Delta Newsletter

Hi Reader,

Sometimes the most important work happens after the emotional moment has passed.

After the conversation escalated.
After the overwhelm.
After you said something you wish you’d said differently.

That space afterward is where awareness begins.

One of the most helpful tools I use with clients is simple reflection.

Not analysing.
Not criticising.
Not replaying things with shame.

Just gently asking:

  • What happened?
  • What did I feel?
  • What did I need?
  • What might I try next time?

This kind of structured reflection helps the brain recognise patterns. And when patterns become clearer, regulation becomes more accessible.

That’s why I included a printable reflection worksheet inside the Emotional Regulation Toolkit.

It’s designed to be used after emotional conversations - especially when things felt overwhelming or confusing.

You don’t need to complete it perfectly.

Even one reflection can increase awareness and reduce the intensity of the next moment.

If you haven’t downloaded the toolkit yet, you can access it here:

If you notice that understanding the tools feels easier than using them consistently, that’s completely normal. Emotional regulation develops more steadily with structure and support.

💛A Reminder (From Me to You)

Emotional regulation is not about controlling your feelings.

It’s about creating enough space to respond in ways that align with who you want to be.

And that space builds gradually.

P.S. Many clients find that simply understanding what’s happening emotionally helps reduce the sense of chaos. Awareness itself is a powerful first step.

ADHD Delta Newsletter Hi Reader, One of the most meaningful shifts I see in clients isn’t when focus suddenly becomes perfect. It’s when focus stops feeling impossible. When the starting point feels clearer. When beginning no longer carries the same weight. For a long time, many clients have lived with focus that feels unpredictable. Some days they can engage.Other days, even small tasks feel out of reach. Over time, this inconsistency can quietly erode trust in yourself. Not because you...

ADHD Delta Newsletter Hi Reader, There is a moment many clients experience when they begin to realise that focus was never something they could force. For years, they believed that if they just tried harder, removed distractions, or found more motivation, focus would finally become consistent. But focus doesn’t respond well to pressure. It responds to conditions. Some days, when emotional overwhelm is lower and the starting point feels clearer, focus becomes accessible. Other days, when...

ADHD Delta Newsletter Hi Reader, In my work with clients, underneath the challenges with organisation, time management, and planning, there is often something deeper. A feeling of overwhelm.Chaos.Low self-esteem.Shame.Loss of confidence. And sometimes, resignation. Resignation that everything they’ve tried hasn’t worked. But the fact that they show up for coaching speaks volumes. It reveals that somewhere within them, there is still hope that something can be different. And sometimes, that’s...
