Beyond the Symptoms: A Fresh Look at ADHD + What’s Next 💡

ADHD Delta Newsletter

Hello!

I hope this meets you well. 🙂

October is ADHD Awareness month, and I’ve been reflecting a lot lately on how we talk about ADHD — especially how we frame it when we share about it with people, or even ourselves. And I wanted to bring you in behind the scenes of that reflection. (fyi - my poor neurotypical husband has probably heard enough from me already 😃)

🧠 Beyond the Symptoms: What Is ADHD, Really?

If you’ve ever felt there’s more to ADHD than just restlessness, distraction, or impulsivity—you’re absolutely right. In fact, science is agreeing more and more.

  • ADHD is a neurodevelopmental difference, not a moral failing, and I think sometimes we need to be reminded of that. Our brains develop differently in areas like the prefrontal cortex (planning, focus) and basal ganglia (motivation and movement).
  • The “chemistry” behind it is real: dopamine and norepinephrine pathways operate differently, which helps explain why some tasks feel almost impossible unless there’s immediate interest.
  • And yes—some parts of the ADHD brain mature more slowly. That doesn’t mean you’ll always “catch up,” but it helps explain why patience, self-compassion, and strategy matter so much.

I’ve unpacked this more fully in a new blog post. (Feel free to read it all the way through or just skim what speaks to you.)

🌱 Why This Matters in Coaching Work

Here’s how this deeper view of ADHD changes the way I show up with clients (and how you might too):

  • Language matters. When we shift from “fixing deficits” to “working with wiring,” we open up a more empowering mindset.
  • Strategy over willpower. Because the wiring is different, what works is not “trying harder” but strategic scaffolding, systems, and supports.
  • Strengths are part of the story. ADHD brings creativity, curiosity, resilience. Coaching is about helping clients tap into those, not ignore them.

🔍 What Next?

In future newsletters and content, I’ll dive into more strategies and tips for managing executive function challenges, and I may include a Q&A to answer your burning ADHD questions.

So if there’s something you’ve been wondering about (e.g. “How do I actually stay consistent?” or “What’s the deal with impulsivity?”), hit reply to let me know, and I may feature it in a future newsletter. 😊

⏳Wrap Up

Well, that’s it from me for now.

Thank you for being in this space with me. I believe ADHD is not just a set of challenges — it’s a different lens through which we can see possibility. And I’m honored to walk alongside you in that.

ADHD Delta Newsletter Hi Reader, One of the most meaningful shifts I see in clients isn’t when focus suddenly becomes perfect. It’s when focus stops feeling impossible. When the starting point feels clearer. When beginning no longer carries the same weight. For a long time, many clients have lived with focus that feels unpredictable. Some days they can engage.Other days, even small tasks feel out of reach. Over time, this inconsistency can quietly erode trust in yourself. Not because you...

ADHD Delta Newsletter Hi Reader, There is a moment many clients experience when they begin to realise that focus was never something they could force. For years, they believed that if they just tried harder, removed distractions, or found more motivation, focus would finally become consistent. But focus doesn’t respond well to pressure. It responds to conditions. Some days, when emotional overwhelm is lower and the starting point feels clearer, focus becomes accessible. Other days, when...

Emotional regulation toolkit

ADHD Delta Newsletter Hi Reader, Sometimes the most important work happens after the emotional moment has passed. After the conversation escalated. After the overwhelm. After you said something you wish you’d said differently. That space afterward is where awareness begins. One of the most helpful tools I use with clients is simple reflection. Not analysing. Not criticising. Not replaying things with shame. Just gently asking: What happened? What did I feel? What did I need? What might I try next...
